----------------Update - 9 November 2020---------------

* It has now been reported that the SOUTHWESTER initially suffered a sudden ingress of water into her engine room which caused the vessel to lose power and then take on a list.

* As a result, arrangements were made to tow the vessel to a port of refuge, but during the tow the list increased and the vessel eventually capsized and sank on 9 November 2020.

* The vessel was carrying a cargo of steel scrap at the time.

* Recovery issues will arise as a result of this casualty and so if you are concerned with any cargo on board, we strongly recommend that you contact us as soon as possible in order that we may take immediate steps to protect your interests.

* General cargo with container capacity SOUTHWESTER is reported to have sank on 5th November 2020.

* The casualty occurred 30 miles off the coast of Figueira da Foz, Portugal as the vessel was proceeding from Bretagne, France to Seville, Spain.

* All fourteen crew members were rescued by a nearby cargo vessel.

* Recovery issues will arise for any cargo that was on board which WKW will be able to assist with including investigations into the cause of the sinking.
