Report
* We have received reports that container ship, HMM NAMU, experienced an explosion and a subsequent fire in the engine room whilst navigating the Strait of Hormuz on 4 May 2026.
* It is reported that the fire was later extinguished by the crew having deployed the ship’s internal firefighting systems.
* However, we understand that the vessel has been rendered disable by the fire and that it may be taken under tow by tugs to Dubai for inspection and, possibly repairs.
* It is possible that GA issues may arise as a result of this casualty.
* We therefore recommend that you contact us urgently if you are concerned with any cargo on board this vessel so that we can immediately start taking steps to protect your interests.
