Report

* It is reported that vehicle carrier MIN JIANG KOU (IMO No. 9991771) suffered an engine room fire whilst proceeding from Shanghai, China to Manta, Ecuador on 6th August 2026.

* It is understood that upon the fire first being identified, the crew activated the vessel's carbon dioxide fire suppression system which initially supressed the fire. Unfortunately, the crew later reported increased smoke on board following which the Master ordered them to abandon the vessel while remaining on board to monitor the situation. All 22 crew members were later safely rescued by two other commercial vessels.

* Professional salvors have reportedly been engaged under a commercial salvage contract to tow the vessel to Panamanian waters, where it is reported to have arrived on 10 September 2026. Salvage efforts are continuing to take place.

* The extent of any damage to cargo on board has not yet been ascertained, or the plans to deliver the cargo to its destination.

* It is likely that General Average will be declared as a result of this incident. Should this occur, we stand ready to assist with the provision of General Average security, and to handle the General Average claims that will then follow. Recovery issues may also arise to the extent that any vehicles have sustained damage as a consequence of the casualty, but there will inevitably now be very significant delay in their delivery.

* We strongly recommend that you contact us urgently if you have an interest in any cargo on board this vessel so that we may immediately begin taking steps to protect your interests
