Report

* We have received reports that the product tanker Southern Puma (IMO: 9792008) collided with the bulk carrier Louisa Bolten (IMO: 9406049) near the Strait of Gibraltar on 1 November 2024.

* LOUISA BOLTEN, a bulk carrier built in 2009 with a gross tonnage of 19,972 tonnes, was en route from Bristol, United Kingdom, to Aliaga, Turkey. It is reported to have been laden with up to 40,770 cubic meters of bulk cargo at the time of the incident.

* According to reports, the collision occurred while the SOUTHERN PUMA was apparently operating with its AIS transmitter turned off, and while LOUISA BOLTEN was transiting eastbound through the Strait of Gibraltar.

* SOUTHERN PUMA reportedly sustained significant damage to its starboard side, including a bow-shaped indentation consistent with a T-bone impact. Approximately 500 cubic meters of paraffin were spilled into the water due to the impact. The tanker has since been assisted by tugs and is now moored at the Port of Algeciras for repairs and to offload the remaining cargo.

* LOUISA BOLTEN sustained damage to its bow but continued its voyage. It is currently anchored at the Port of Nemrut, awaiting inspection.

* It is possible that General Average/ Salvage issues may arise as a result of this incident, there will also likely be recovery claims too.

* We therefore recommend that you contact us if you are concerned with any cargo on board these vessels so that we can immediately start taking steps to protect your interests.
