Report

------------------UPDATE-------------------

17 November 2020

* We are now instructed on behalf of certain cargo interests in this matter and can report further concerning the capsize of general cargo vessel, MENTARI CRYSTAL at Teluk Lamong Terminal, East Java on 15 November 2020.

* The vessel came to rest with its starboard side on the sea bed just off the pier at Teluk Lamong Terminal.

* It appears that many, if not all, of the containers stowed on deck fell overboard, and any cargo stowed below deck will also be affected by physical damage and seawater wetting.

* Operations to salvage the cargo and the vessel are reported to be underway.

* As previously advised, security may be required to be provided in order to take possession of any salvaged cargo and we may be able to assist in that regard.

* The cause of the capsize of the vessel is not currently clear but unsubstantiated reports suggest that the improper ballasting of the vessel and container stowage will be amongst areas requiring further investigation to protect cargo interests.

* Having already received instructions from certain cargo insurers we may be able to offer certain economies of scale in respect of any expert investigation of the cause of the casualty.

* We therefore recommend that you contact us urgently if you insure any cargo affected by this casualty so that we may take immediate steps to protect your interests.
