Casualty type Grounded
Vessel Type General Cargo - VT GGC

* MV GLOBE 6 ran aground near Antique Province, Philippines on 13 August 2020. The Coast Guard are investigating the cause of the grounding.

* Efforts will be made to re-float the vessel although it is not yet clear what level of salvage assistance will be required or the terms of that salvage assistance. Given the location of the grounding, it is likely there will be very few options in terms of salvage assistance. However, we suspect that there will be a potentially significant salvage claim for Shipowners and cargo owners to settle.

* As part of dealing with the salvage claim, it is possible that salvors may demand security from cargo owners/insurers and W K Webster may be able to assist in the provision of such security as part of our overall service.

* Given the circumstances, it is quite likely that General Average may also be declared by Shipowners. If so, General Average security is likely to be required from all Cargo Interests prior to the delivery of their cargo.

* Recovery issues may also arise (for amounts paid in salvage and any cargo damage) and we are uniquely placed to assist Cargo Insurers with all aspects of this casualty, including an investigation in to the cause.

* With consideration to the cargo of rice on board which may deteriorate as a result of the disruption to the voyage, we will also be able to assist with any surveys at the destination port to establish the condition of cargo at the time of delivery. It is essential that any loss and damage is fully evidenced in support of any deductions to be submitted with regards to cargoes salved and General Average values and any recovery claim. WKW have surveyors on standby to attend where necessary.
