Casualty type Engine Failure
Vessel Type General Cargo - VT GGC

* We have received reports that general cargo vessel, HIMALAYA, experienced an engine failure and went adrift in the Canakkale Strait, Turkey on 24 November 2020.

* The vessel was later taken under tow by a Turkish Coastal Safety tug to Karanlik Liman anchorage, Turkey, for inspection and repairs.

* The Turkish authorities will demand salvage security or payment from the property interests prior to the vessel's departure from the anchorage. This demand may be met by the vessel owner to cover ship and cargo, or the demand may be made to both ship and Cargo Interests separately.

* General Average may also be declared as a result of this casualty. If General Average is declared, General Average security may be required from all Cargo Interests prior to the delivery of their cargo and we are likely to be able to assist in that regard.

* We therefore recommend that you contact us urgently if you are concerned with any cargo on board this vessel so that we can immediately start taking steps to protect your interests.
