* We have received reports that fully cellular container vessel, KMTC SURABAYA, ran aground whilst sailing off the island of Belitung, Indonesia on or about 27 November 2020.

* The vessel was on a rotational voyage calling at Chinese, South Korean, Vietnamese, Thai and Indonesian ports of call at the time of the grounding.

* Whilst the severity of any damage to the vessel it is currently not clear, it is possible that the assistance of professional salvors may be required to refloat the vessel. If so, Salvage Security may be required to be provided by cargo interests prior to the release of the cargo and W K Webster may be able to assist. Security provided by WKW is acceptable to the Council of Lloyds and widely preferred by professional Salvors.

* It is also possible that General Average will be declared and that General Average security may be required from all Cargo Interests prior to the delivery of their cargo. We are likely to be able to assist in that regard also.

* Claims for physical loss or damage to cargo may also arise as a result of the grounding.

* We are uniquely placed to assist Cargo Insurers with regard to all aspects of Maritime Casualties and we have surveyors on hand to assist with any appropriate investigation of the cause of the grounding and the extent of damage to any cargo affected by this incident.

* We therefore recommend that you contact us urgently if you are concerned with any cargo stowed on board this vessel so that we can immediately start taking steps to protect your interests.
