Report

* It is reported that container carrier XIN QI SHENG 69 and container carrier OCEANA (Grt 17,769, Built 2013) collided at the mouth of the Yangtze River, after OCEANA suffered a steering gear failure on 13th December 2020.

* Following the collision, XIN QI SHENG 69, reportedly laden with up to 650 containers, sank with a number of crew members currently still unaccounted for.

* It is reported that OCEANA, with cargo capacity of up to 1,740 TEU containerized and/or temperature sensitive cargo, is currently at anchor in the Yangtze river estuary and has sustained damage as a result of the collision. Records show the vessel is on a rotational voyage between Shanghai (China), Ningbo (China), Port Klang (Malaysia), Chattogram (Bangladesh) and Singapore.

* It is possible that Salvage, General Average and recovery issues may arise as a result of this casualty.

* Should you insure any of the cargo carried onboard either vessel, we recommend that you contact us as soon as possible so that we can immediately start taking steps to protect your interests.
