* We have received reports that an explosion ignited a fire on board general cargo vessel, KOTA BAHAGIA, during cargo discharge operations at Napier Port, New Zealand on 18 December 2020.

* The crew were forced to evacuate the vessel as a result of the development of thick smoke and other explosions are reported to have occurred on board the vessel whilst the fire was raging.

* The fire was later extinguished by the local fire service.

* It is reported that the vessel was laden with general cargo, including wind turbines; containerised; and possibly temperature sensitive cargo, at the time of the incident, having called at Tianjin, Dalian and Taicang ports, China prior to the vessel's arrival at Port Napier.

* It is possible that General Average / Salvage and Recovery issues may arise as a result of this incident.

* We therefore recommend that you contact us urgently if you insure any cargo on board this vessel so that we can immediately start taking steps to protect your interests.
