Gallipoli Seaways

* We have received reports that RO-RO cargo vessel, GALLIPOLI SEAWAYS, experienced a fire on deck when the vessel was in a position off Bozcaada Island, Turkey on 11 February 2021.

* It is reported that initial efforts to extinguish the fire were made by the crew but that the Master later requested urgent assistance and a number of Turkish Coastal Safety tugs were deployed to assist the vessel.

* The vessel later berthed at Akcansa Port ferry terminal, Turkey, where the fire is reported to have been brought under control by the crew with additional fire fighting assistance provided by the Coastal Safety tugs and cooling operations are currently underway.

* It is possible that General Average / Salvage and associated recovery issues may arise as a result of this incident. Recovery issues may also arise in respect of any damage to cargo affected by the fire, heat, smoke and/or wet damage as a consequence of the fire fighting efforts.
