Report

 ------------------UPDATE-------------------

19 March 2021

* We have received the following updated information concerning the casualty to fully cellular container vessel, VEGA ALPHA:

* It is reported that the vessel was taken under tow to Singapore where all cargo on board the vessel has been discharged to allow repairs to the vessel to be effected.

* We understand that all cargo will be on-carried to the vessel's original destination port of Kaohsiung, where all cargo not destined for Kaohsiung will be transhipped for on-carriage to cargoes' final destination ports, worldwide.

* There are currently no reports of physical damage to cargo as a result of this incident. However, shipowners declared General Average in view of the extraordinary expenses incurred for the common safety of the interests to the maritime adventure. GA security is therefore required to be provided by all cargo interests prior to the delivery of cargo at Kaohsiung and we are likely to be able to assist in that regard.

* We have already been instructed by a number of Cargo Interests and we are liaising with Average Adjusters as to the provision of security. We also have a Hull & Machinery surveyor on standby at Singapore to investigate the extent of damage to the vessel and the possible cause(s) of the casualty and we may be able to offer certain economies of scale in respect of any third party costs which may be incurred in that regard.

* Recovery issues may also arise in relation to time and/or temperature sensitive cargo as a consequence of the prolongation of the voyage.

* We therefore recommend that you contact us urgently if you are concerned with any cargo stowed on board the vessel in order that we may immediately start taking steps to ensure the timely provision of GA security in respect of that cargo and to protect your interests in respect of any Recovery issues that may arise as a result of this incident.
