We have received the following report:-

* It is reported that bulk carrier GALAPAGOS and container carrier ZEPHHYR LUMOS ( Built 2021, Grt 149,525 ) collided in the Malacca strait, 14 nautical miles southwest of Kuala Sungai, Malaysia on 10th July 2021.

* GALAPAGOS is laden with an unknown quantity of coal, loaded at Gladstone (Australia) and bound for Visakhapatnam (India). From available media footage it would appear the bulk carrier has been seriously damaged by the bow of ZEPHYR LUMOS and in all likelihood will require extensive repairs, necessitating the possible transhipment of cargo. It is also highly likely that General Average may be declared by the owners of GALAPAGOS.

* ZEPHYR LUMOS, laden with up to 15,000 TEU of containerised and / or temperature sensitive cargo, was proceeding from Singapore to the Suez canal on a rotational voyage calling at Chinese and Mediterranean ports via Singapore. From media footage the container carrier has sustained damage only in the area of the bow and therefore cargo may be mainly intact.

* Following the collision, both vessels are currently at anchor near to the location of the collision for on-going assessment and investigation.

* It is possible that Salvage, General Average and recovery issues may arise as a result of this casualty.

* Should you insure any of the cargo carried onboard either vessel, we recommend that you contact us as soon as possible so that we can immediately start taking steps to protect your interests.
