* It has been reported that containership KENT TRADER suffered an engine room fire on 19th July after departing from Chiwan, China, bound for Incheon, South Korea.

* It is further reported the vessel suffered a total blackout and required the assistance of a salvage tug to provide electrical supply and to tow the vessel to a safe port of refuge, arriving at Hong Kong outer anchorage on 22nd July.

* Significant repairs are understood to be required prior to the resumption of the voyage and shipowners have therefore declared General Average. General Average security will be required to be lodged with the appointed general average adjusters by both the insurers of the cargo and the cargo owners prior to the release of the cargo once it reaches its final destination. W K Webster can assist with the provision of such security.

* We have retained surveyors to investigate the cause of the fire and we are currently liaising with the vessel interests and average adjusters in this regard.

* Recovery issues may also arise in respect of temperature controlled and/or time sensitive cargoes.

* W K Webster is already instructed in respect of cargo on board which may be of benefit in terms of third-party costs. Should you be concerned with any cargo on board this vessel we would urge you to contact us as soon as possible so that we may also assist you..
