----------2nd Update----------

21 September 2021

* MSC KATRINA has now successfully berthed in Durban, South Africa having arrived under tow following an engine room fire which had resulted in the vessel losing all power.

* The extent of damage is unconfirmed however it is reported that repairs in Durban, where MSC maintain their own technical department, could take up to 1 month according to Transnet National Ports Authority.

* In addition to the obvious delays which will affect any time sensitive or refrigerated cargoes on board it is possible that General Average and Salvage issues may arise as a result of this incident.

* Should you insure any cargo stowed on board this vessel and require our assistance, we would urge you to contact us as soon as possible so that we may take immediate steps to start protecting your interests.

----------1st Update----------

It has been reported that large containership, MSC KATRINA, suffered an incident on board resulting in the vessel drifting and Not Under Command, South West of Port Elizabeth on 9th September 2021. The incident occurred whilst the vessel was on passage from Lome, Togo to the port of Durban, South Africa. There are initial suggestions that the vessel may have suffered a fire on board, but this is yet to be confirmed.

* The vessel is understood to have been taken under tow by tug SA AMANDLA in poor weather conditions and may take shelter and / or seek a port of refuge, possibly in the area of Port Elizabeth. We are closely monitoring the vessel's movements and will advise further as the situation develops.

* It is possible that Salvage and General Average issues may arise as a result of this incident. In addition, recovery issues may arise in respect of damaged cargo. As the schedule for the MSC KATRINA may now be seriously delayed, this is likely to adversely affect any time sensitive or refrigerated cargoes on board.

* Should you insure any cargo stowed on board this vessel and require our assistance, we would urge you to contact us as soon as possible so that we may take immediate steps to start protecting your interests.
