Casualty type Engine Failure
Vessel Type General Cargo - VT GGC

* It is reported that general cargo vessel, BEATA, experienced an engine failure whilst navigating off the south coast of Rhodes Island, Greece on 27 October 2021.

* The vessel was immobilised as a consequence of the engine failure and was drifting towards the coastline. Consequently, we understand shipowners contracted with professional salvors to provide salvage assistance to the vessel under LOF terms.

* The vessel was later taken under tow by tug towards Souda Port, Crete. The convoy's ETA at Souda Port is 30 November 2021.

* Salvage Security will be required to be provided by a party acceptable to the Salvors or the Council of Lloyd's, on behalf of cargo interests, and W K Webster may be able to assist. Security provided by WKW is acceptable to the Council of Lloyd's and widely preferred by professional Salvors.

* It is also possible that shipowners will declare General Average. If so, General Average security may be required from the Cargo Interests prior to the delivery of their cargo and/or that associated recovery issues may arise as a result of this casualty and we are also likely to be able to assist in those regards.

* We therefore recommend that you contact us urgently if you are concerned with the subject cargo so that we can immediately start taking steps to protect your interests.
