* Further to our previous report concerning the fire on board container ship, CMA CGM RABELAIS, the vessel's managers now report that the fire started a container stowed on deck on 6 April 2022.

* The fire is reported to have been swiftly brought under control by the crew, although the Master has ordered a fire-fighting tug to assist. The tug was expected to rendezvous with the vessel on 7 April.

* The vessel is reported still to be adrift, currently in a position north west of Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

* Whilst we will continue to monitor events, on the basis of present information it seems unlikely that General Average will be declared in this instance. Nevertheless, recovery issues may still arise in respect of fire/heat/smoke/fire-fighting damage, or as a result of delays to temperature controlled or time sensitive goods.

* We will report further as more information becomes available.
